CivaString

The CivaString, pictured above, is a linear brachytherapy device that contains palladium-103, a commonly used therapeutic radio-isotope. It has been granted FDA 510k clearance to treat any solid tumor. It will be provided on a prescription basis in lengths ranging from 1 to 6 cm.

Because the CivaString is a linear radiation source, it should deliver a far more homogeneous radiation dose than traditional metal seeds can provide. It is designed to work with standard brachytherapy needles, pictured below.

CivaSheet

CivaTech is developing a uni-directional and planar brachytherapy device to treat non-small cell lung cancer. This device will be mostly bio-absorbable and will have integrated radiation shielding material so that healthy tissue is spared unnecessary radiation dose. A first prototype was created in 2011 with partial support from a Phase I SBIR contract from the National Cancer Institute.
